Everyone loves Nunzio's idea...

It should be no surprise to you all that I approached our discussions with more than a little skepticism.  But, I have learned a lot from you all.  The idea that we will all contribute individual gifts is more than just inspiring... it’s sensible.  I want to pitch in myself.

My gift to the group will be that I’ll use my attention to detail (and bossiness!) to make sure we actually see through all of our plans.  I’ll make sure the gallery is set up in a way that will be ready for patrons.  Then, I’ll keep checking in with others during their shifts to see if they have any questions and to check if we’re all doing it the right way (just kidding)!

I know everyone thinks I’m too busy partying to have much to offer.  But I actually think this is exactly the gift I want to contribute.  No... I’m not going to try to get all the patrons drunk - not that I couldn’t do it.  I could!  Or at least I could try.  No, my gift is that I’m personable.  Somewhere along the line when I was growing up, I realized I have a knack for making people relax and have a good time.  It has something to do with if I like them, they like me.

So for the show, I’ll kind of act as host.  I won’t be overbearing, that’s not my style.  But I’ll welcome people, see what they need, what they’re looking for, and make sure they know what to do and where to go if they want to talk to one of the artists or make a purchase.  I’ll just make sure everyone is having a good time.

Okay.  So I’ve been thinking that I’m kind of the odd one in all of this because I hate talking about my art and don’t really give a shit if I sell any of it.  But then, for whatever reason, gallery people keep wanting to buy it.  It all seems so strange to me.  I’d be just as happy living in the woods somewhere making my paintings and then letting some guy come in a truck once a week to cart them off to wherever the hell the paintings want to go.

And I don’t want to sound arrogant, so forgive me, but we’ve all talked about how sometimes people come and pay a lot, a lot, for my paintings.  And I don’t ever spend money on anything.  I mean I buy everything I wear from Goodwill - I haven’t gotten new clothes since my mom last took me back to school shopping in, like, fifth grade.

So that got me thinking about my gift to the group.  I’ve decided that I will try to help out with everything so that it runs smoothly.  But, for this show, and each show we do from here on out, I’ll give money from the biggest piece I sell at the show.  So, when the normal split is 70% to the artist and 30% to the common good, for the biggest piece I sell, I’ll do the opposite: I’ll only take 30% and the 70% can go to our common account.

Wow, that is so generous of Nunzio.  It really will be helpful to have his marketing knowledge and connections added to our effort.  And you know, he doesn’t even need to be here to do any of that.  So, I don’t mind that he is off doing whatever he needs to do.

I also really love this idea of each of us contributing a gift.

For my part, I’ve decided to contribute my gift of organizing.  I think for this show, I’ll focus specifically on how to organize the money.

Both my parents are CPAs, so I guess I come by it honestly.  I was thinking I’d ask Prudie to help me iron out the details and implement it on the day of the show.  But for now, here are my thoughts:
